ActiveRain and Your NEW Twitter Settings

Mark this day as another that will go down in History as an "AWESOME NEW FEATURE" added to the ActiveRain Network.  We have added and are rolling out Twitter auto-feeds for your AR Blog posts.  If you have a Twitter account already, you can set yours up now.  If you don't, you'll need to go to Twitter.com and set one up.  It will take less than a minute.

What is Twitter?  It's micro-blogging.  "Twitter is a free social networking and micro-blogging service that allows its users to send and read other users' updates (otherwise known as tweets), which are text-based posts of up to 140 characters in length. Updates are displayed on the user's profile page and delivered to other users who have signed up to receive them. The sender can restrict delivery to those in his or her circle of friends (delivery to everyone being the default). Users can receive updates via the Twitter website, instant messaging, SMS, RSS, email or through an application such as Twitterrific or Facebook.  Several third parties offer posting and receiving updates via email."

Setting Up Twitter on ActiveRain:

The process for setting up your Twitter Account on ActiveRain will literally take you 10 seconds.

  • Click On "My Home" at top of this page

  • Click on the "My Settings" link on left side of page

  • Scroll down to "Twitter Setup" and enter your info

  • Put in your Twitter user name and password, Click Update

When you create a new post now (if enabled), Twitter will automatically place an announcement in your twitter feed and profile including the Title of the post as well as a link to your post.  We are looking at adding an option on the "New Post" page that allows you to select which posts you want to tweet.  Now go post in the rain, and let the outside world and your followers know.  You can follow me on Twitter here: Follow ActiveBrad

Here are some other Twitter related sites you may be interested in checking out.  Enjoy this new feature, it will certainly drive more traffic to your Blog posts and it's so easy to use.

Enjoying The "Journey" of Lifetime!

Last week, I had the chance to take my family to go see Cheap Trick, Heart, and Journey at the Pavilion. Talk about a flash-back from the eighties. WOW!  What really made this show and evening so special, were my kids getting to see some of the musical talents of bands and friends that my wife and I have grown up with over the years.  Music and people that were/are a huge part of our lives, and that shaped our memories and future.

The evening was full of surprises for my kids, it was a night they'll never forget as long as they live!

Cheap Trick Opens the Show with Nothing but Their Classics

Heart Takes us Back Through Time and Down Memory Lane

Journey Takes us on the "Journey" of an Unforgettable Evening

After the show, Jonathan invited us backstage so the family could meet and greet the band.  I can't even begin to tell you what an impact this had on our kids.  Getting to meet him finally, along with Neal Schon, Arnel Pineda and Ross Valory was not only a dream come true for them, it was the most inspirational moment of their lives.  You should have seen their faces.  You could see the stars and dreams unfolding right in their eyes. Life for them this night, was much more than just a fantasy, it was surreal. I put together a photo collage so they can enjoy and remember this night forever.  Hope you'll enjoy it too. :-)

These are some of the shots we were able to get from our seats. The sound was awesome and the performances were incredible, it was a night we're glad we didn't miss. Great seats too, 10 rows back.

We want to thank our friends from Heart, Cheap Trick and Journey for an unprecedented evening, and especially Jonathan Cain for making it all possible, and for making the entire concert experience spectacular from beginning to end. Our family had the best time ever, Thanks Again. :-) If you EVER get the chance to see Journey "Live", they are a MUST see. They are simply incredible. Arnel Pineda is every bit as good as Steve Perry or better, and their live performance is just sensational!

We're forever your fans and friends...Faithfully!

We have some awesome videos and audio recorded, that any of you are welcome to see and hear, so come on over to our place sometime, but I do respect the copyright laws and these fine musicians enough to avoid the temptation of posting them here on my Blog. (It's Killing me though ...LOL) Instead, I endorse and suggest you go out and buy Journey's newest CD "Revelation!" You won't be disappointed. :-)

The Petrified Forest Whispers Happy Birthday Today

For a long time now, my mother has spoken of this place and a time where a tremendous earthquake shook the Country...the earthquake was so violent that it hurled down the Giant Redwood trees like matchsticks.  Fire, ashes, and molten lava came out and coursed down the valley in which now lies the "Petrified Forest!"  She has always wanted see this place, so today, for her Birthday, her wish was finally granted.

Debra and I decided to take my folks to this enchanting, mystical and fascinating place located in Calistoga, California.  It's a Registered Historical Landmark #915, and is a must see if you ever get the chance.  You'll see much of it here as I share this special day spent with Mom.  It was a step back in time, over 3 million years ago, and a walk on the trails of the Petrified Redwood Giants.  What once stood as towering trees, is now just the "Rocks Of Ages!"

How was this wood and forest petrified?  Water laden with silicates in the Volcanic ash seeped down into the gaps left behind by the decomposing tree fibers; replacing the wood cell by cell with crystallized silica until the entire trees became stone. Some of the silica formed into a colorful glass-like gemstone.  Seeing the petrified wood all around us was spectacular.  You'd never know by looking at these trees that they were like cement.  It was just awesome to see and touch.

The best part of today was seeing my Mom have so much fun.  I think she really enjoyed the trip.  She was finally getting to see a place she's always wanted to go, and at the same time, celebrating her Birthday in the forest with us.  She got souvenirs, exercise, enjoyed the fresh air, and now has some memories that she'll treasure forever.  We enjoyed a nice "Birthday" lunch on our way back at place called Villa Romano's, some of the greatest Italian Food you'll ever encounter...really!

I just want to say to her, thanks Mom for spending your very special day with us, for being such a great trooper out there in the forest, and mostly, for putting up with me all day, and for all these years.  You have been the "Giant Redwood" that I have looked up to all my life, and the "Rock" that has inspired me to always give my best in everything I do.  Today we celebrate YOU, your Birthday, and all that you stand for and represent which is: Love, Honesty, Integrity, Humbleness, and Selflessness.

You're the best role model a son could ever have, you inspire me to this day to be more like you in every way.   You are so loved, appreciated and respected, more than I could ever express or put into words.  I hope you'll celebrate your Birthday with us for many years to come.  You're the QUEEN, my Mom, my Mentor, my Inspiration, my Hero, and my very very best friend forever. I love you!!!

RETaggr - Can It Really Do All That?

My ActiveRain Blog sidebar has forever been a hosting ground for widgets, gadgets, gizmo's, buttons, and anything else I could place there that didn't break my Blog or the AR Network. LOL  Most of the buttons there were just links to other Blogs and sites where I participate.  The others were just on-line tools and services I wanted to share.  There are so many Social Media Networks and great sites out there, it was getting really hard to decide which ones I should have on my Blog's sidebar.

Today, I got rid of them all!  All except the ones I still need for subscribers, tracking and promoting events and information.  They have been replaced with REtaggr.  It's one small step for a widget, one BIG step for Social Networking and Bloggers.  If you are already on sites like FaceBook, Twitter, LinkedIn, MyBlogLog, etc., there's no need to add those buttons to your sidebar or website anymore.  Just use the RETaggr widget or chicklet, it's FREE.

The best part of RETaggr is that if you don't see the service, network or site you're already on, just add it.  You can add any website, Blog, or Internet site you chose by using the "ADD" feature you'll find on their site.  They even have an ActiveRain Icon listed as an option to add as one of your Blogging sites.  There are some really great features and other benefits of using RETaggr, but just the fact that it allowed me to cleanup my sidebar a bit made it worth posting about.  haha!  Check it out, I think you'll really like it, I do.

To the right is my REtaggr widget, just hover your mouse over the chicklet and the card opens up.  Then click on the "more" link to see all the buttons, widgets, and gizmo's I was able to remove from my sidebar today.  YEAH!  Adding other Blogs, Websites and Widgets to REtaggr is unlimited, and the widget gets updated Real Time as you add or make edits.  No cutting and pasting the code every time you make a change.  REtaggr, you're it!  :-)

A Great Tool for Blogs, Websites, Email Signatures, and On-Line Business Cards.

Video Audio Indexing - Converting Your Voice and Audio To Text

For the past few years, we have had the ability to convert "Text To Speech" (TTS) on our computers.  We can even select a male or female voice to read back text in a Word Document or on the computer screen.  My son, a college student, uses the TTS "Speech synthesis" feature to have his computer read back stories and articles for homework assignments while he multi-tasks on other programs and applications.  Well fasten your harnesses...

It was recently announced that Video can now be searched on Youtube.com using audio converted text. WOW! So what does this mean?  What you say in your video will be converted, indexed, and now searched by viewers and consumers using keywords and phrases.  This is a new and exciting time for the Video enthusiasts.  Video and SEO?  Until now, the only searchable part of any Video was the "Title", "The Description", and "limited" tags or keywords.  No longer will this be the case.

See how Adobe Works to Make Video Search Indexing Easier, or how  Adobe Makes Flash Content SEO-Friendly.  "Adobe is providing optimized Adobe Flash Player technology to Google and Yahoo to enhance search engine indexing of the Flash file format and uncover information that is currently undiscoverable by search engines."

It's only a matter of time before ALL search engines like Google, Yahoo, MSN, and the others will incorporate this into their search options.  See how Google Labs is working with Audio Indexing and testing this right now with "Search what the politicians are saying", I think you'll be surprised and impressed.  It is predicted that video will be a $3 Billion Dollar Business by 2010. Video is what's hot and happening, otherwise these companies would not be investing this kind of time, money and research into its "Searchable" Future.

3 Ways To Reach Your Audience - Blogging Just Isn't Enough

In the beginning, well...many years ago, the only way people could communicate and share information with others, was by traveling on horseback or by boat to personally deliver their news.  Then came mail.  In regards to advertising, marketing, and providing news and information, this must have been a nightmare.  Word of mouth was pretty much it!

Once newspapers were created and evolved, they quickly became the "Resource" to get information, and find out what was going on in local areas and around the world.  Then came radio, followed by television.  Now the Globe became smaller, and the World felt more connected.  The news media still utilizes all three of these methods today.

Newspapers, Radio & Television have been the primary source for getting information into our homes for decades now.  We are hooked.  So where am I going with this?  Look at the costs of advertising and marketing with these traditional methods of media.  The fees to run an ad, grab a radio spot, and have a commercial on TV during "prime time" has been, and continues to be very expensive.

How do you compete with the media platforms that have been so effective and had such an impact on our daily lives for so many years?  WEB 2.0!  We read, we listen and we watch.   We are in some way touched daily by one, if not all of these methods of delivery.  Still, most of us have a preference.

Do you Read, Watch, or Listen?  (Because you Blog, might mean you prefer reading)

Example: Star Wars is a Classic: Would you rather read the book, listen to the audio, or watch the movie?  You most likely prefer one over the other.... Now ask someone else the same question.  The answer will vary depending on that individuals taste and audio/visual preference.  We're all different.  Getting to the point...

Today, we have the Internet!  We are ALL new to WEB 2.0 and Social Media Marketing, shouldn't we re-evaluate our advertising processes and marketing efforts?  I know some will disagree, and I welcome your thoughts and opinions, but just Blogging in today's On-line World isn't going to be enough.  That's like only having a newspaper as your source to get your valuable content and information out there.

In addition to Blogging, incorporate Podcasts and Video as a part of your arsenal and marketing plan too.  If you are only Blogging, then you might be missing the "radio" and the "television" type listeners and viewers.  Blogging, Podcasting, and Video will allow you to get in front of a wider variety of prospects, and on the same media platforms they use and enjoy most, just like the Newspapers, Radio and TV do.

Do you read the paper?  Do you listen to radio?  Do you watch television?  Sure you do, and so do your friends, family, clients and prospects.  Do you read Blogs?  Do you listen to Podcasts?  Do you watch Videos?  Yes you do, and so do your friends, family, clients and prospects.  I think you get the picture...

By using these "3 Proven Methods" of getting news and information out there, you can expand your audiences and connect with a wider variety of readers, listeners and viewers.  The World is changing very fast, and with these "New" methods of delivery now available, you should JUMP ON IT.  Just as traditional methods have evolved, these new WEB 2.0 platforms will too, and they WILL be/are just as powerful and effective.

The "BEST PART OF ALL", they are FREE.  So don't just get Read, Be Seen and Be Heard too.  :-)

3 Ways To Reach An AudienceTime to compete with Newspaper, Radio, and TV. How? WEB 2.0! Blogging, Podcasting, and Video! These are the 3 ways to get your information out to clients and prospects. Unlike the traditional methods, these are all FREE, more fun, and more effective. Blogging just isn't enough! :-)

Adding Forms To Your Blog Post

How do you create a lead sheet, a contact form, a questionnaire, a call to action in your post?  Google Docs allows you to not only create private forms, spreadsheets, and presentations, now you can embed them into your Website or Blog.  You also have the choice to share those forms and docs with others.  You can even invite others to view or collaborate on your work.  This could be a great tool, it has the potential to take your readers from being a viewer to being a potential lead.  Here's a sample of one I did creating a suggestion box.

First, you will need a Gmail Account.  It's FREE, and this doesn't mean you have to change or even use this email address, it's just your log-in for everything Google.  (Highly Recommended even if you don't use Google Docs) Go to Google and log-in or Sign up for Gmail.

Once you have your account setup, go to Google Docs to create your forms, documents, spreadsheets and presentations on-line. You can also upload your existing creations from your computer.  If you'd like, Take a tour of Google Docs before you begin. There are 100's of Templates already created for you to choose from, or you can create your own. There's even a Help Center for those needing a little assistance and support.

To create your own lead sheet or contact form, go to Google Docs

1. SELECT NEW, THEN SELECT FORM:

2. Give your Form a title, include some supporting text (optional), Label your field or question, add field supporting text (optional), select question type and format for responses, put a check in the box to make field required or not, then click DONE.  Add additional questions by clicking on the "Add Question" button at the top.  Don't worry about the order of your questions and fields, you can "drag and drop" them and sort them later.  Repeat this process for each field or question.

3. Once your form is complete and you are satisfied, click "SAVE" in the upper right hand corner.

Now you have some options available that can make your form a valuable tool that you can share.

You can send your form to clients and prospects via email, you can also view your responses here. Next, use the "More Actions" button to A) Create and Edit an automatic response form, and B) to "EMBED YOUR FORM INTO YOUR WEBSITE OR BLOG POST."  This is one of Google Docs best features in my opinion.

4. Click on "MORE ACTIONS" to get your code.

5. Once you place the embed code into the proper location on your Website or Blog, you're set to go:

6. To view your responses and new leads, just go to your Google Docs, and open the form.  All your results will be right there for you to follow up with.  How cool is this?

Note:
Any updates or edits made to your original forms, documents and presentations on Google Docs are automatically updated in all the locations you have placed them on the Web. There's no need to go back and replace the HTML code on your Websites or Blogs, so place it in as many locations as you'd like.

Now you just have to be creative and decide how you want to use a tool like this.  Decide what questions or fields of information you need to make this a powerful tool for your on-line business and customers.

TIP:  Don't go overboard with questions, people get overwhelmed easily in many cases, and won't take the time to fill it out if there are too many.  I hope this is easy enough for you to use and to understand.  As always, thanks for reading and taking time to visit.  It's always nice to have you swing by and say hi.

The ActiveRain Suggestion Box

In many recent posts, I have been getting some great questions, suggestions, and ideas in the comments. I thought this would be a great tool to use as a suggestion form. This will allow our staff and team to gather information, in one location, of suggestions and ideas that come from our members among the community.

Collectively, some of the greatest advancements and upgrades on ActiveRain stemmed from a conversation, a Blog post, or a simple comment. There's over 173,000 members here, and most likely, some of the "BEST" ideas and innovative creative minds, so we'd like to hear from you.

In a future post, I'll show you how to add a form like this to your Blog using Google Docs. This could be a contact form, a lead sheet, a fact sheet etc. There's numerous ways I can see how our members might benefit from using a tool like this.
